Joe’s Auto Parks banded together with many community members including the Los Angeles Community Garden Council to create a space for DTLA residents to enjoy the benefits of growing their own fresh, organic foods.

The concrete jungle of DTLA and the busy lives that go with it does little for those who want to connect together and with nature. With that at hand, a solution to bring the two together came about.
Spring Street Community Garden was the fix that brought the opportunity to grow food and the community at the same time. It was started with the thought to grow food in DTLA and now has grown into a place to meet others, learn, and grow.
On June 11th, Spring Street Community Gardens had their Grand Opening where they celebrated this new space with an official ribbon cutting and ceremony. Around 50 gathered for the first seeds to be planted for the salsa garden and since then, the 30 soil beds and the rest of the communal beds have filled up. The DTLA residents are excited to use this space to learn about urban gardening, techniques, cooking, and more.
Since the grand opening, this communal place has been quite busy. Their volunteers have been giving many hours of their time to make this garden a success and to create a beautiful and enthusiastic gardening community. The Spring Street Community Garden keeps things going with workshops throughout the month, where you can learn about composting, irrigating, what tools to use and more. Besides the volunteers, who truly make this place run, this could not have been a reality without the generous other sponsors. Without the Los Angeles Community Garden Council this lot would still be a stretch of dirt behind a parking garage.
What better way to use a piece of Joe’s and we are excited to see how this grows.
